数年前、友達から「日系アメリカ人のアーチストの興味深い映画があるから、一緒に見よう！」と誘われて、一緒に見たビデオが、「ミリキタニの猫」でした。彼は、日本名を三力谷勉さん、アメリカでは、ジミー・ツトム・ミリキタニさんといいます。一時期はニューヨークの路上でホームレス同然の暮らしをしながら猫の絵を売っていたこともある方です。その三力谷さんのアート展が、デンバーのアクセス画廊で開催中。オープニング日には、92歳の三力谷さんご本人もいらしていました！愛くるしい猫の絵もたくさん展覧されています。
A few years ago, our friends showed us a documentary movie about a Japanese American artist, "The Cats of Mirikitani." The artist's name is Jimmy Tsutomu Mirikitani who used to be almost homeless in NY and sold his own drawings of cats. At his art opening at Access gallery in Denver, Mr. Mirikitani, 92 years old, was there to greet us. There are many cute drawings of the cats of Mirikitani in the gallery.
